Job Summary

The incumbent will work in USAID Usalama wa Afya Duniani under the supervision of IPC Specialist to support the infection prevention and control program, developing strategies to minimize infection risks and enhance patient safety at facility levels. She/he will collaborate with senior leadership and IPC lead to establish program goals and objectives related to infection control. Directly contribute and provide technical input to ensure that health facilities in supported regions meet required targets and identify opportunities to course correct when needed. IPC program officer will promote and support the dissemination of project best practices and lessons learned among project teams, key partners (including the MOH), local partners, USAID, and PEPFAR.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate implementation and monitoring of sustainable IPC activities at regional, district, and HF levels.
  • Provide and facilitate systematic monitoring of IPC interventions in all supported regions.
  • With other stakeholders such as USAID, IPs, and the HQAU of the MOH, participate in reviewing, refining, and finalizing the IPC tools and guidelines.
  • Work with IPC Advisor to disseminate IPC guidelines, assessment standards, SOPs, and IPC M&E tools to all supported regions.
  • Liaise with IPC Advisor to supervise and implement IPC interventions in all supported HFs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement regarding infection control practices at the subnational level.
  • With MoH, train regional and district TOT, and hospital QI teams using available IPC training packages.
  • Provide supportive supervision and mentorship to all supported regions, districts, and HFs.
  • Coordinate quarterly performance review meetings bringing national/regional IPC FP for cross-learning.
  • Build R/CHMTs’ capacity to conduct facility assessments using WHO IPC minimum requirements.
  • Work with CQI advisor to implement quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing infection prevention practices at the subnational level.
  • Coordinate IPC QI collaborative approach to allow HCWs to share experiences and challenges regarding implementation of IPC initiatives.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in medical or nursing degree from a recognized university.
  • A further specialization in infection prevention and control is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in IPC services/programs.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of standard and disease-specific IPC, a multi-modal approach to IPC, and WHO core IPC component is required
  • A clear understanding of IPC in the context of global health security, emergency preparedness, and response is also required
  • Demonstrable knowledge of infection control practices implemented within the Tanzanian health system.
  • Experience in preparing and facilitating training for healthcare providers, familiarity with Tanzania health systems delivery, and working with MoH relevant departments is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (ability to work within GoT systems); as a member of a team and working independently.
  • Strong professional oral and writing skills, including the development of reports, oral presentations, and technical documents
