Job summary

The incumbent will work in USAID Usalama wa Afya Duniani under the supervision of the One Health Specialist to support a variety of One Health technical areas. One Health program officer will support the activities aimed to integrate and implement the One Health (OH) approach for the USAID Usalama wa Afya Duniani. She/He will work with OH lead to support the implementation and monitoring of technical initiatives to strengthen the adoption of the OH approach to prevent, limit, and contain disease spread. She/He will work closely with OH lead to build the capacity of OH, project evaluation, and develop success stories.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the expansion of the OH approach to engage relevant sectors and disciplines, including animal health, wildlife, environment, public, academia, research, and private sectors at national and subnational levels.
  • Under supervision of OH lead, support development of strategies that link human and animal health surveillance using the One Health approach.
  • Support the development/reviewing of One Health strategies and frameworks.
  • Prepares, organizes, participates in, and provides technical support in meetings, workshops, and simulation exercises.
  • Monitors and maintains project protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals, training materials, and reports related to technical areas of expertise.
  • Support the development of technical briefs, reports, or other necessary materials to facilitate research, best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Under the supervision of OH lead, support review of project implementation to identify areas for improvement and propose appropriate technical strategies.
  • Ensures project activities are on track with work plans and develop technical interventions to improve project implementation.
  • Monitor and track statement of Work (SOW) and provide reports to supervisors.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in health science or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A medical or nursing degree with further specialization in public health is an asset.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in OH services or similar relevant programs.
  • A clear understanding of OH in the context of global health security, emergency preparedness, and response is also required.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of OH and Global Health Security implemented within Tanzanian health system.
  • Experience in preparing and facilitating training for healthcare providers.
  • Familiar with Tanzania health systems delivery and MoH relevant departments is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (ability to work within GoT systems); as a member of a team and working independently.
  • Strong professional oral and writing skills, including the development of reports, oral presentations, and technical documents
