Job summary                                                                                                                                

The Digital Health programmer is responsible for developing and maintaining CIHEB – Tanzania’s health information systems in the USAID Usalama wa Afya project. Under the supervision of the MEL director, S/he will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, auditing, and improving the existing HIS systems and project software required by the project. In addition, the Digital Health programmer will work with other government entities to support interoperability between existing HIS, laboratory, and surveillance information systems across One Health sectors. The Digital Health programmer will ensure the developed systems conform to standards through system testing, debugging, and technical documentation through reference manuals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development:
    • Design, develop, and implement robust and scalable digital health applications for the Usalama wa Afya Duniania project.
    • Write and implement well-designed and testable code.
    • Conduct thorough debugging and troubleshooting to ensure optimization of the software.
    • Maintain software by deploying updates and patches.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional program teams to define and implement technical solutions.
  • Data Management:
    • Develop and maintain database systems to store and retrieve client data securely.
    • Ensure data privacy and security compliance.
    • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends and insights for the Usalama wa Afya Duniani Project
  • Integration:
    • Integrate digital health solutions with existing healthcare systems and technologies.
    • Develop APIs and web services to facilitate data exchange.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and find creative solutions
    • Provide technical support to users.
    • Stay up to date with the latest digital health trends and technologies.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with healthcare professionals, data scientists, and other team members.
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer programming, Information Technology, or another relevant equivalent field.

  • At least 5 years experience as a computer programmer, software developer, or other relevant equivalent role.
  • Strong programming skills in relevant languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript)
  • Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL)
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and regulations.
  • Understanding of data privacy and security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • A passion for improving healthcare through technology.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with digital health frameworks and tools (e.g., FHIR, HL7)
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
